Straight Outta Compton – Red Band Trailer
The first trailer for Straight Outta Compton arrived on Monday.
Straight Outta Compton documents the rise and fall of the controversial gangsta rap legends – NWA.
The red band trailer includes an introduction featuring Dr. Dre and Ice Cube cruising through South LA and discussing the group’s legacy, while getting much love from the locals. The duo relates their experiences during their rise to fame, along with events they faced, such as the Rodney King riots, and points to similarities today’s youth face with current political events.
The casting seems to all be excellent choices, including Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., portraying his father. The resemblance is obviously striking. As for the trailer itself, it is intense and I am immediately excited for this upcoming summer movie.
“Your songs, they glamorize gangs and drugs,” a reporter asks the group at a news conference during a scene in the trailer.
“Our art is a reflection of our reality,” Cube replies.

Here is the F. Gary Gray directed It Was A Good Day by Ice Cube.
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
Will Dr. Dre’s long awaited final album be released to coincide with the release of Straight Outta Compton? Probably not but here’s hoping we one day will hear Detox.
Sifting Through the Trash is scheduled to be touring California at the time of the release of Straight Outta Compton. We can’t think of a better place to watch it on opening night than in Compton.
